Land Asset Sales Program

The department is leading the Government's Land Asset Sales Program, an orderly and coordinated program of surplus or under-utilised land asset sales. The proceeds from these sales will be used to reduce State debt and return revenue to the State Government to benefit Western Australians now and into the future.

The State Government is making a number of surplus Government-owned land assets available to the open market:

Land asset sales principles

The sale of Government assets has the potential to utilise assets for a higher and / or better use in a way that unlocks the full potential of the asset for the betterment of Western Australia.

To achieve this aim, the department will manage and drive the Government's land asset sales program based on the following principles:

  • the State is the owner of all government real property assets;
  • assets are to be used at their highest and best use; and
  • assets are to be made available for core agency business; and

The purpose of the Land Asset Sales Program is to implement and drive a centrally coordinated program of land asset sales that ensures the State Government's land asset portfolio is managed to its full potential now, and into the future.

The program creates one central State Government system to coordinate and target the sale, leasing and optimisation of State owned property. It also enables under-utilised land to be repurposed for another Government priority and/or need.

This program will improve the State Government's understanding of its real property assets and allow a coordinated approach to unlocking their full potential.

Each site may have a number of constraints (for example heritage, contamination, zoning, mining tenements, native title) and/or market sensitivities that need to be considered and managed to optimise the State's return.

The proceeds from land asset sales will be used to reduce State debt.
